Sellwood is a South East Portland neighborhood that is located 5 miles South of downtown Portland. It borders the Willamette River to the West, Westmoreland City Park to the East, the city of Brooklyn to the North and the city of Milwaukie to the South.

How Did Sellwood Get Its Name?
Sellwood got its name from a pioneer Episcopal minister: Reverend John Sellwood. In May 1882, he sold 321 acres of his land to a real estate company that names the new town “Sellwood” when it was officially incorporated in 1883. To attract potential home buyers, the Sellwood Real Estate Company provided a free passenger ferry from downtown Portland to Umatilla Street in Sellwood.
